Formtek designs and manufactures metal forming equipment with cutting edge, patented technologies for manufacturers producing shelf and pallet racks. Pallet rack uprights, step beam, and steel shelving are common application, which are manufactured on all of Formtek’s brands of roll forming equipment and systems. Pallet racking components are formed by OEM producers and job shop type manufacturers. As the components are press brake formed in small volumes, it’s possible for a growing company to incrementally transition to the productivity advantages of roll forming. Formtek has the engineering experience to design the flexible solutions required for supporting the exacting tolerances for today’s shelf and pallet rack applications.
Applications
Posts and Braces
Depending on the customer’s specific needs and manufacturing environment, the posts and braces can either be pre-notched and pre-cut then roll formed, or notched and roll formed with post-cutting to length. Reviewing the customer’s production needs, Formtek can evaluate what solution may fit best.
Step Beam
For the lighter duty, knockdown type storage racks, the step beam may be roll formed out of two halves that are nested and welded offline. For heavier duty pallet racking, the roll formed shape is welded inline to produce a finished step beam. Formtek has produced numerous step beam systems, with varying levels of automation for quick changeover between sizes of step beam.
Shelving
For storage and pallet racking, the frames of the shelves are produced using a step beam tube. Formtek’s flexible forming mill for welded step beam profiles offers the ultimate in changeover between step beam sizes, for efficient production while minimizing setup scrap and changeover time.
