Yoder Solutions for the Construction Industry

Yoder Solutions for Construction Industry Manufacturers

As one of the world’s most recognizable manufacturers of metal forming and fabricating solutions, the construction industry has come to rely on Yoder’s experience in designing and manufacturing of equipment, tooling, and systems for metal forming and fabrication and tube and pipe machinery solutions critical to their business. Yoder can provide custom or standard metal forming solutions that increase the production capacity and efficiency of your business through integrated, streamlined processes and highly-automated, faster machines.

Strut Framing and Side Rail Roll Forming

Strut framing channels are used as a common solution for general industrial framing needs including installation of electrical and mechanical supports, utilities, and air handling duct. Due to the versatility of applications and uses, there is a range of strut sizes, material thickness, hole patterns, and profile features that may be required. Over the years, Yoder has developed a robust machine and tooling package for producing strut framing channels that support regional manufacturers and high production OEM producers. The combination strut tooling design that Yoder has perfected enables customers to have a single installation that covers the entire product range with only partial tooling set changeover when switching products. This tooling design helps customers to produce channels in smaller quantities with faster changeover and less setup scrap so they do not need to maintain large inventories of odd strut sizes.

With the latest development in strut roll forming design, Yoder now offers a tooling package that enables producers to run stainless steel strut and profiles up to 3¼” deep at the full line speed capability of their roll forming machinery. With other strut tooling suppliers, their outdated designs limit the production speed, particularly on these stainless and taller sections due to material galling and marking. Yoder has solved this problem with our unique approach to forming the strut cross section.

Similar to the strut roll forming solutions, Yoder has developed several tooling and machinery packages for producing high-quality side rail and rung components for fabrication of cable trays, ladders, wire management products, and a large array of other mechanical and electrical supports. Yoder’s systems may be high speed, inline notching, embossing, and stenciling, or for the custom fabricators, cutting or feeding plain blanks for future, offline processing. As the worldwide markets require different levels of automation and inline processing, Yoder roll forming solutions can be tailored to each customer’s needs.

Hollow Structural Section Tube Mills

Metal tube and pipe, known as hollow structural sections (HHS), is used in construction for framing building structures and for enclosing and transmission of utilities and conduit. Yoder’s experience and metal forming solutions for the construction industry can provide a complete tube production system for green-field operations or retrofit and integrate into existing installations in order to optimize production.

HSS is a classification of tubing used for construction in buildings and other structures.  A feature of HSS is that this type of tubing is easily fabricated into a structure — an important characteristic for use in construction. Because of the wide range of standard sizes, HSS tubing is also commonly used in non-construction applications. HSS are made in round, square, and rectangle shapes from 1 ¼” (32 mm) square, 0.125” (3.2 mm) thick, up to 20” (508mm) diameter round, 5/8 ” (16 mm) thickness. All of these product sizes can be made by longitudinal welding on Yoder’s tube mill equipment. Structural sizes up to 5” (127 mm) diameter round, 0.250” (6.4 mm) can be produced on Yoder’s standard WH-series mills. The larger sizes can utilize our industry proven WH-series designs, tailored to the specific customer’s focus of size range, as well as Yoder’s Full Cage Forming Technology for efficiency of changeover for producing large diameters, up to 26” diameter (660 mm).

Once a building structure is in place, the next layer of tubing products is utilized for electrical conduit. As the industry leader in ERW Square Wave welding technology coupled with the M-, QVW-, or WH-series tube mills, Yoder can provide tube mills that cover the entire range of conduit sizes, up to 6” (152 mm) OD. The Yoder Square Wave welder can weld small diameter conduit at high speeds, where other welding methods are limited by saturation of those sizes. Yoder has installed conduit mills that run up to 1200 FPM (365 m/min), so productivity for the largest manufacturers is no problem. For those investigating the production of electrical conduit, one may also consider roll forming strut framing channel and cable tray products.

Roll Forming & Flexible Fabrication Systems

Formtek can integrate multiple fabricating processes and systems from B&K, Dahlstrom, Hill Engineering, Lockformer Custom Machinery, Tishken, Winpro, and Yoder to streamline and reduce the labor in your manufacturing operations. Whether it is flexible fabricating or roll formed products, Formtek can engineer and build a complete manufacturing system, from coil or sheet handling through finished product, for your application.

Consolidate Notching and Fastening Operations

The systems can be complex, involving multiple notching, bending and/or roll forming machines with welding, such as the production of office furniture wall partitions. Such systems may eliminate a dozen or more manual operations. Digital controls and batch production capabilities can allow the process to vary position and quantities of engineered features without setup time.

Eliminate Multiple Press Brake Operations

These integrated roll forming and flexible fabrication systems from Formtek can be as simple as manufacturing roof panels or shelves by hand feeding metal sheets into the roll former.

Engineered To Order

Each Formtek System is designed and manufactured to optimize the processing of your products.
