Tube and Pipe Mills
Tube and Pipe
With over a century of experience, Formtek continues to deliver superior quality, precision, and reliability with its complete range of tube and pipe mill solutions. Formtek provides a range of solutions to fit your specific application: complete mills, individual machines, mill accessories, tooling, as well as consulting, engineering studies, and retrofits to existing installations.
Through the world-famous Yoder brand, Formtek has long been recognized as one of the earlier pioneers in the welded seam tube mill business. The Yoder brand offers multiple standard tube mills for common product sizes. In addition to the standard machines, Yoder also offers specialized equipment that covers a wide diameter range of metal tubes and pipes — from the 3/16″ (4.76mm) O.D. cold stretch reducing mills to the 28″ OD cage mills.
As required by the application for welding the tube or pipe, Formtek can also provide mills with high-frequency induction or contact welders, DC and AC Square Wave Welding (ERW), TIG, and laser.
Formtek Tube and Pipe Applications
Mechanical tubing is a broad term for general round and shape tubes used in a variety of industries and applications, from residential lawn furniture to fabricating ladders on a commercial vehicle or frames for industrial generators. To produce the range of mechanical tubing sizes required, Yoder’s M-Style and QVW-Style machines offer a time-tested solution. The models each cover a common range of tubing sizes, so a model is available for the products you need to manufacture.
Metal Tube and pipe is used in construction for framing building structures, Hollow Structural Sections (“HSS”) as well as for enclosing and transmission of utilities, conduit. Formtek’s experience and solutions for these markets can provide a complete tube production system for greenfield operations or retrofit and integration to existing installations in order to optimize production.
For storage and pallet racking, the frames of the shelves are produced using a step beam tube. Yoder’s flexible forming mill for welded Step-Beam profiles offers the ultimate in changeover between step beam sizes, for efficient production while minimizing setup scrap and changeover time.
Along with the welded step beam for pallet racking, Yoder offers multiple roll forming solutions for the vertical posts, lacings, and basket components that are required for storage and pallet racking.
Appliance and HVAC
For heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment, as well as home appliances, the heat transfer element (condensing or evaporating) may utilize welded tubing. Very similar to the automotive fuel line, Yoder’s Cold Reducing Tube Mill produces small diameter tubing for these applications,. Additionally, for evaporator or boiler tubing, Yoder’s M-, QVW- and WH-Series machines can produce these products. For welding, Yoder Square Wave ERW welder provides a ductile heat affected zone of the tube, appropriate for the bending required to produce the coiled tube required for these thermal transfer applications.
Our application engineering team can help select the appropriate machine for your application, considering the materials, sizes and production needs to fit your business.
The Yoder name is synonymous with the production of single wall fuel line tubing, worldwide. For the last 60 years, Yoder has developed and continually refined their Cold Reducing Tube Mill technology for small diameter tubing. The Yoder W-15-S Cold Reducing Tube Mill System welds a tube up to 1.25″ (31.8 mm) diameter and can produce finished diameter down to 3/16″ (4.76 mm) diameter. Wall thicknesses range from 0.020 to 0.040″ (0.05 to 1.0 mm) but applications up to 0.060″ (1.5 mm) have also be done. Typically the Cold Reducing Tube Mill is setup with a multi-station recoiling system for continuous recoiling of the tubing, but an inline cutoff for producing straight lengths can be included as well.
With new techniques for extraction of hydrocarbon-based fuels, more specialized materials, heat-treating and finishing processes are required to produce the high performance pipe for these applications. Whether it is more traditional oil country tubular goods, pipe and casing, or stainless steel pipe for specialize chemical processing, the WH-Series mill and Yoder’s pipe tooling expertise tackles the latest applications and technology. For the largest sizes of OCTG transmission pipe, the Yoder Full Cage Forming technology is an appropriate solution for the efficient production of the largest sizes of round, longitudinally welded pipe.
For the service centers producing tube and pipe, Yoder’s mill technology and accessories offer the perfect upgrade for existing installations. Whether it is Single Point Adjustment, to speed up the gap adjustment and setup repeatability of or a Seam Rotation Stand, to orient the weld location for reshaping purposes, Yoder offers a range of standard machine accessories, and can custom engineer for unique applications, to improve the productivity of existing tube and pipe mills.
For the manufacturers with existing Yoder Mills, our aftermarket services insurance long term support of your machinery. We offer replacement components for even the most outdated mechanical components that may be required. In addition to replacement parts, Yoder’s Aftermarket Services offers on-site service, setup and rebuild training. Recently we have provided mill upgrades to increase the speed and size range capabilities of existing Yoder tube mill installations, to improve the productivity and capabilities of our installed base.
Integrated Systems From Formtek
Formtek's family of brands deliver a wide range of metal forming and fabricating solutions. Through Formtek, individual machines and systems from B&K, Dahlstrom, Hill Engineering, Lockformer Custom Machinery, Tishken, Winpro, and Yoder can be seamlessly integrated to deliver optimal results for your operations.
Roll Forming and Flexible Fabrication Systems
Formtek can integrate multiple fabricating processes and systems from B&K, Dahlstrom, Hill Engineering, Lockformer Custom Machinery, Tishken, Winpro, and Yoder to streamline and reduce the labor in your manufacturing operations. Whether it is flexible fabricating or roll formed products, Formtek can engineer and build a complete manufacturing system, from coil or sheet handling through finished product, for your application.
Consolidate Notching and Fastening Operations
The systems can be complex, involving multiple notching, bending and/or roll forming machines with welding, such as the production of office furniture wall partitions. Such systems may eliminate a dozen or more manual operations. Digital controls and batch production capabilities can allow the process to vary position and quantities of engineered features without setup time.
Eliminate Multiple Press Brake Operations
These integrated roll forming and flexible fabrication systems from Formtek can be as simple as manufacturing roof panels or shelves by hand feeding metal sheets into the roll former.
